Thanks Rachel for another great session!
Milestone Portrait Session for this two-year-old! I love that they wanted it at Grandma's house with her azalea's in bloom. It was the perfect backdrop for a fun little photoshoot! This boy has to be melting hearts with that smile!
Thanks Rachel for another great session! When Sam contacted me about doing some portraits for her and her sister for a Christmas present to her mom and grandma, I was delighted! I think printed portraits are such a priceless gift to give for every occasion. And these girls were going to have an amazing session. They requested to have the session at Maymont and I could tell that Sam really wanted something beautiful to give her mom and grandma. I couldn't wait to meet them and make it happen.
Do you want to know what happened at their photo session? Something that is so priceless for me. You see, I love it when my work connects me to friends from days gone by, like high school, middle school, or in this case - elementary school! Yep, it turns out that the Hughes sisters were actually the daughters of an old friend that goes all the way back to our elementary school days at Hening! And he really hadn't changed much at all! He showed me pictures of his beautiful wife, Michelle, and told me about their family's adventures while he was in the Coast Guard. I was so happy for him and his family and it just helped set a happy tone for the girl's photo session. It was late fall at Maymont and we still managed to find some beautiful backdrops. I loved the interaction between these two - perfect sisterly love full of little jokes and kind words. Thank you to the Hughes sisters and family for having me do your portraits! It was a great session and I LOVE your photos! Baby Blake arrived a wee bit earlier than his parents were expecting! They had been waiting for this day to arrive - patiently waiting to know if it was a boy or girl {see their maternity photos here}. Blake's big sister welcomed him into the family, too, instantly nicknaming him Mr. Blakester! Can't you feel the love? At 6 days old, he was a sweet little babe for his newborn session. Big sister Ava worked hard for some sibling poses and then it was Blake's turn to have the spotlight all by himself. We captured some sweet moments with his parents at the end of this gorgeous in-home lifestyle newborn session. You can just see the awe and wonder in their eyes as they adore him. Welcome to the world Mr. Blakester! He's here! Baby E finally made his appearance and his parents couldn't be happier!
His mom and dad were beaming (despite their lack of sleep) when I arrived for his newborn session. After some scouting around, we decided that the front porch was the perfect location for the photo shoot! That's right, this session was done completely outdoors. There were lots of smiles and laughter mixed in with feeding and diapering. At the end of it all, there were some super special photos and Baby E was happy to get back to his routine. Thanks to the family for the opportunity to capture these moments with your new baby boy! As the sun lowered on the horizon, this beautiful family met up with me for their maternity and family photo session. With baby #2 on the way, excitement surrounded them. Their daughter, and soon to be big sister, enjoyed playing with my props and snuggling up to her mom and dad. I was more than thrilled to capture this special chapter in their family story. Amy and I have worked closely together and I was so excited for and her husband, Matt, as they prepared for their second child. They have planned to wait until the birth to find out if it's a girl or boy. I don't think I could ever do that, so kudos to them for waiting it out! As the sun set, we were shown a brilliant pink and blue sky and I couldn't wait to post this image to Facebook! Stay tuned for the newborn session - coming sometime in August! When a friend asks me to photograph their family, I get pretty excited. When they also tell me that they want to have them done in a field of flowers and they know just the right place, I get downright giddy! After discussing some outfit options and color palettes, this mom had it all set. The mix of yellow and white flowers as a backdrop to her bright pink dress paired with the blues of their shirts was pure magic, don't you think?
Want to go see the cows? This little guy sure did! We let him take the lead and he took us to some of most beautiful spots in the park. Of course, with all the warm oranges and fiery reds in the fall leaves, most spots were beautiful. And when he finally warmed up to the idea of me being there and taking photographs while they explored, he would give the most precious expressions, like this one. Super cute, right? If you want some ideas on how to look this great in your family photos, be sure to check out my recent post How To Get Awesome Family Photos.
This family was such a joy (yes, pun intended) to photograph! Little twin sisters and their big brother had charm written all over them. Add in a beautiful country setting right outside their front door and we had the makings of a magical session.
I was so excited to photograph our pastor's family as they were expecting baby #3! After having two beautiful girls, they were excited to find out that this was going to be a boy! But they also found out that there were a few things to be concerned about. After follow up tests and many days and nights worrying and wondering and praying, they were given the thumbs-up and most worries were put to rest. On December 3, the first images of Baby Silas appeared on Facebook and we rejoiced. Then the next day, they were told that Silas had a problem with his heart. One of the arteries in his heart was narrowing and he would need surgery. He has been transported to UVA for the procedure and now there is discussion about other alternatives, but he is still in critical condition. It has been a long week for this family and they need your prayers. Please join us in prayer for Baby Silas, his family, and the medical team. Here he is! Isn't he adorable? Will you join me in praying for him? Sweet, sweet baby boy!
I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph this family! We go way back to middle school. And now they have kids almost in middle school - CRAZY! They were full of smiles and a delight to hang out with at one of the most beautiful parks around. The little man might not have wanted much to do with having his picture taken, but we managed to sneak a few in anyways. This one is, perhaps, my favorite.
When my friend asked if we could incorporate a barn or a fence in their session, I was so excited! The hunt was on and after many weeks of searching, we were finally able to get permission to have a photo session at this awesome red barn. The kids were so sweet. Can't you just tell that this family is a lot of fun? Special thanks to my friend LuAnne for helping me get permission to have this session here!
by Katie Cartwright I was recently asked if I would photograph a family at the zoo for their little guy's 3rd birthday. Um, let me think about that for zero seconds...YES! I love this family AND the zoo! Match made in heaven. So here it is: a birthday at the zoo with parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lots of animals. There's just something special about having all the cousins together to make great memories! Thank you, friends, for allowing me to capture this special day for you!
It's the Marchetti Kids! I was so excited when this family contacted me for a family session. These guys love the outdoors and love to be silly! Their session was lots of fun and they even showed me a new geocache! (If you don't know what that is, then check it out at Geocaching.com - we're big fans.)
I was so thrilled to have the chance to capture this sweet family a few weeks ago. We spent the morning hanging out at their house and found so many great spots. The boys got to run around, hide, laugh, and they even showed me their secret tunnel. I am having a hard time choosing a favorite from their collection! Which one is your favorite?
